Where Christian parents learn from, grow with, and encourage one another.

Here is a little challenge:

Can anyone find a single verse or passage of scripture that would deter a family from adopting a child?

Not a single one that I can think of - quite the contrary since we are adopted into God's family when we trust Jesus as Savior. What an awesome picture of grace adoption is - doing something for someone that they don't deserve, nor could they ever repay.

Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:23
Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

Galatians 4:5
to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Ephesians 1:5
having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Yeah, that is all I come up with too. I was thinking about this from the point of view: "Why don't more people adopt?" I thought maybe there was something I was missing.

Thanks for your help Joe.

Well I didn't find any specifically against adoption. I did find some though about the womb being blessed, which I guess for a couple that has been trying to conceive might encourage them to continue to try instead od adopt.....

He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land that he swore to your forefathers to give you.
Deuteronomy 7:12-14

The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb.....
Deuteronomy 28:11

I guess it depends on how a person interrupts these types of scriptures. There are several others too I didn't list.

I must agree with previous posts. There is no "anti-adoption" position based upon scripture. Since I am not of Jewish decent, I am adopted as well. Actually, since I am a sinner, I am adopted and forgiven. Have you encountered such a theological position?

Just joined and saw this post. In fact I think the Bible encourages us to take care of orphans. In other words, adopt them.

James 27 says ..."Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

I am the adoptive father of 2 beautiful little girls from Cambodia. There has been no greater blessing. Family isn't built on flesh and blood but relationships with Jesus at the center. He should know, after all Jesus was adopted by his earthly father Joseph.

If adoption is something you are contemplating, my wife and I would be happy to share our experience. It truly is an amazing gift.
