Where Christian parents learn from, grow with, and encourage one another.

We are going to try to homeschool our three chidlren this fall... first time ever. We are needing some help on where to get started. Anyone have any thoughts? Resources and guidance will be greatly appreciated!

I believe that Southeast has a Homeschoolers group, you might look into that. I know that they even have a Summer Camp at Country Lake for homeschoolers. The local Library near our home has a section for Home Schooling too.

Another place to look into is Cornerstone Christian Academy, they offer a Homeschool Extension Program... Here is a link:

I'm interested to see what information you have found on this. I am exploring homeschooling as an option myself. I am at a point in my life where I am developing a business and about to emigrate and I realise that instead of developing the business I could home school. I've spent a "workiing" day a week over the last 18 months with my youngest son, in addition to the weekend.

This seems to be an amazingly cohesive option: - to focus my creativity and skills as a coach and learner investing in my own children. On the flip side I wonder if I might miss being entrepreneurial and maybe there is a half way house.

So I am interested in what you have found and what brought you to make the decision in the first place

The Southeast group no longer exists. They formed a yahoo group called home for His glory.

The first step is to decide what type of homeschooler you will be. Will you go traditional and have daily lessons, or unschool and have them learn while their hands are busy....from there you can find a curriculum that works best for you.

I've found that typically, first time homeschoolers like to stick with one set curriculum for the first year, and then after that they branch out and pull from many curriculums.

Also, most curriculum's are made to teach varying ages/levels. They teach a basic skill, and then can be expanded for each age.

I like/use My Fathers World.

Thanks Crystal!
We decided to use Switched on Schoolhouse... it has worked really good for our family, so far.

I meet with Jonathan Pennington; he runs HFHG. We are going to try and do some things together where we partner with HFHG as a church... praying through it all for now.

I've been homeschooling for several years.
I'm not the "martha Stewart" of homeschoolers like
many moms I know-probably more of an 'unschooler'
but have learned a little and willing to try and
answer any questions if I can.
